FAQ's - InfraRed and Other Heating Facts

Whereas classic convection heaters, warm a room by circulating warm air. HEATME™ infrared heating panels direct radiant energy directly to people and objects in the room or outdoor space. Infrared rays heat by 'releasing heat energy' upon contact with solid objects and people. This heat energy absorbed by people, furniture and walls is also reflected into the environment to warm the entire space - a win win.

Assuming an electricity rate of $0.35 per kilowatt-hour, the operating costs for HEATME™ Heaters range from $0.63 per hour (1800 W) to $1.12 per hour (3200 W). For comparison, a much less efficient “mushroom-type” patio heater with 13 kW costs $4.55 per hour to run, i.e. four times as much as the most powerful electric heating unit.

The difference is only in the radiant panel design. The inside heating elements and structure are same, and the heating efficiency is also same.

Recommended installation height is 1.8 to 2.5 meters from ground level. Heater angle can be adjusted to suit.

Basically, the shorter the wave, the more easily it travels through the air. Short wave Infra Red generates heat by heating the object it touches, without directly heating the air around it. This creates even and effective, instant-heat with out pre-heating. A good example for this mode of action is the effect that occurs when a person walks out of the shade into the sunlight. Although the ambient temperature remains the same, they feel the temperature as considerably warmer under direct solar radiation.

Benefits of short-wave Infrared radiation lamps compared with other radiating elements

Efficiency:
92% of the electrical energy consumed is transformed into Infrared radiation and hence into heat.

Ability to direct the radiation:

As with light, it is not affected
by air currents, there is no loss of energy, and the heat is applied where it is needed.

Versatility:
The power input can be adjusted between 0% and 100% without any effect on component lifespan.

Cleanliness and Safety:

No noise, dust or smoke and no
outward combustion or fire risk.

Compactness :

Optimal power to density ratio.

Installation and use:
Simple and easy to install and operate. Models include mobile app remote control options.

An Infrared heater is a 'body' with a higher temperature which transfers energy to a 'body' with a lower temperature through electromagnetic radiation. Depending on the temperature of the emitting body, the wavelength of the Infrared radiation ranges
from 780 nm to 1 mm. The relationship between temperature and wavelength is expressed by the Wien's displacement law. No contact or medium between the two bodies is needed for the energy transfer. e.g. Infra Red heaters can be operated in vacuum.

One classification of Infrared heaters is by the wavelength bands of Infra Red emission. Short wave or near-infrared for the range from 780 nm to 1,400 nm. These emitters are also named 'bright' because some visible light is still emitted; Medium Infrared is between 1,400 nm and 3,000 nm; and FAR Infrared or dark emitters for everything above 3,000 nm.
